Suddenly certificate thumbprint events where appearing on our Office Communications Server and several users reported that they are unable to login to OCS.

SCCM 2007: WSUS DB maintenance

For a while now the synchronization of updates which are initiated by SCCM via WSUS are terribly slow. It takes hours and hours after SCCM is ready to deploy new updates to the clients caused by a WSUS databases of which the last maintenance job was run probably after the installation a few years ago.

Windows 2008: Add iSCSI LUN

This is very easy when using Windows 2008 because it has an iSCSI initiator enabled by default.
First make sure that the LUN is being presented by our storage device, how to do this depends on which iSCSI target device is being used.

To free up some space on the SAN I decided to do some storage management and initiated a cleanup project,  scope is data being not accessed for more then 1 year or longer. In this article I describe how I achieve this using Windows 2008 File Server Rescource Manager.

First of all , and that is what this part is about,  I need to determine if this project makes sense or in other words; How many extra free space is there to achieve and will it be worth the effort....

SCCM 2007: Only show Required Updates

In the Software Update search folders SCCM 2007 always shows updates which aren't required by any host in your environment.

Here's a quick howto so only required updates with a minimum of 1 are showed in the search folders.

SCCM 2007: Exclude updates from search folder

Every month there is a monthly maintenance evening when updates are applied to our Windows servers. A time consuming job is to check the search folder and exclude updates which gave errors on earlier scheduled maintenance days.This is not a basic functionality in SCCM 2007 but a custom trick can do the job to automaticly exclude these updates from the Software Update search folders.

After applying some updates to our Exchange mailbox servers, serveral user complain about the Out of Office assistant not being turned off. Outlook says it is turned of, but people report that Out of Office reply still triggered when sending mail. Time to troubleshoot....
